When Mel first arrived at YMCA, she was vulnerable and afraid and had run out of options. After her parents split up when she was 12, Mel found herself relying on the wrong crowd for support, taking recreational drugs, drinking and missing school. By 16, the relationship with her parents had completely broken down and she was made homeless.

Students studying effective altruism and health care at Harvard University have selected Sightsavers to receive a grant of US$25,000.

The students, from the secondary concentration in Global Health and Health Policy, took the class ‘Reimagining Health Care: Effective Altruism and Beyond’ at Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. They were taught by Professor Nir Eyal from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health.
